The topic: Sinus

----------------------------------------------

When the humidity drops, the dry air really bothers my sinuses.  I get sinus congestion (worse than usual) and I get headaches.

Why don’t the sinus meds get rid of my headaches?  They dry up my sinuses, sure, but the stupid little men banging with their nasty little hammers against the area behind my nose just keep banging away.

Excedrin helps.  Sinus stuff is a waste of money.

And something else that annoys me.  My nose gets dried up snot in it. It packs in there.  I can’t blow it out.  I need a hammer and chisel to get it out when my allergies kick in (like now).  Brian, on the other hand, gets a drippy nose.

I think I’d rather have the drippy nose.

Stopped by to check for Tummy Tues post, and find you here being miserable instead. Have you tried saline nasal lavage? One good wash a day with intermittant use of a saline nasal spray (esp. containing glycerine) can give significant relief for the symptoms you describe. And there are no drugs or doctors involved. I found a fairly thorough discussion here: Allergy Buyers’ Club or google saline nasal lavage.

Thanks. After doing a little research, I’m seriously considering purchasing this.

That thing you linked to makes my eyes water just looking at it.  Do you use any nasal sprays like Afrin?  They have a no drip variety that has the menthol stuff that seems to do a good job with helping with the congestion in the head as well as the nose.  I can’t help you with the dry stuff.  I have that problem sometimes, too.

I’ve always got the dry problem.  This morning, for some reason, I could actually breathe through both nostrils and it was an strange experience. All that oxygen at the same time!

Wow, what a rush!

*lol*

Have you tried just dabbing a wee bit of vaseline at the edge of your nostrils (sounds gross doesn’t it), to add some moisture as your breathe in?

The nasal washing might help—I occasionally will snort water when I shower just to loosen and moisurize things up there.

When the weather turns drier in the fall, my sinuses always plug up and I wake up with my mouth dry from breathing through my mouth.  What works for me is Advil Cold & Sinus liquid gelcaps.  Other than that, drinking a lot of water helps loosen stuff up there.

When I get a sinus infection, I soak a crushed clove of garlic in a little water and then squirt the water up my nose.  Sounds gross and all you can smell for hours afterward is garlic but it helps clear out the infection with out drugs.

Let us know how the nasal irrigator works for you.
