The topic: Well, I’ll be damned

----------------------------------------------

The past few weeks I’ve been obsessing over finding something for Annie that she shows strong interest in eating.  I’ve tried five different meat flavors of baby food, different cans of Fancy Feast,  Nutro foods, different dry kibbles and all she’ll do is eat a few bites, then turn her head.

This morning, Brian made bacon and eggs, which he has twice a week.  He makes extra bacon for me.  Well, I walked into the office, having finished my last piece (I get two) and I let Annie smell my fingers.  Oh, my goodness!  Her head came up, she started looking around, sniffing.  She stood up.  I ran into the other room where Brian was eating and asked if he had any more bacon, save me a little piece.

It wasn’t as small as I wanted, but I brought it back to the office and broke off a tiny piece to see what she’d do. She snarfed it up.  I broke up the rest and gave it to her.  She ate every last bit.  I’m hoping this means she’s getting her appetite back.  Obviously, I’m not going to run into the kitchen and cook up a couple of pounds of bacon for her, bacon isn’t the best thing, but it was nice to see her actually finding food yummy, wanting more when she’d cleaned up what she had been given.

When my Little Lucky girl got cancer, one of the few things that really peaked her interest was turkey. I’d get a pound of turkey burger and cook it with just a tiny amount of salt, and stir it while cooking so that it was quite small, and easy for her to eat. I would give her small amounts during the day and slide proper food in, too. She loved the juice and would just lap it up. She liked the turkey meat just slightly warm too. Lucky would go for this when she would turn her nose up at everything else.

I’m not sure what you could put with that to keep it fairly wet, to keep her fluid levels up and also what you could add to keep her from getting constipated, but I’m sure there is something. I hope this helps.

It is WONDERFUL to hear that Annie is showing interest in food!

iI had a very sick cat once and the only thing he seemed to really want to eat was thinly sliced smoked turkey so he got as much as he wated!

My cat Shadow is in the middle stage (I guess) of kidney disease and is getting more finicky about her food. One thing she LOVES is fried chicken. She’ll try to pull a piece out of our hands as we’re eating them. We buy the 8 piece box and give her the drumsticks, cut up into small pieces. The vet said that’s OK, but no skin. She also likes the Turkey & Giblets Fancy Feast, but you might give the fried chicken a try.
