The topic: Up and running!

----------------------------------------------

I'm really happy with how it turned out. It was a little hairy, we couldn't get the door off, ended up breaking the hinge, then the the printer wouldn't recognize the new cartridges. I finally found the answer (uninstall them and turn off the printer, let it set for at least five minutes, turn it on, reinstall the cartridges) and it worked!

I tested it on photo paper with this photo:

It exceeded my expectations. For OEM cartridges it's $108. For wannabe Epson cartridges on eBay it's $56.00. A set of refill ink for this cartridge set is $40.00. These bottles hold a ton of ink, way more than the little cartridges, so I'll be saving a lot of money in the long run.

I can't close the lid all the way because it would pinch the tubes. And the lid needs to be closed because the cats walk on the printer. Brian is going to sand down a part of the lid and a part of the case and the ribbon/tubes will not be pinched.

I'm so excited! I feel like a real geek right now. *lol*

Congrats!  I’ve used those systems before on some of my printers, and they work great—just make sure that 1) there’s a way to reset the printer’s counters, and 2) you have a waste ink system as well. Epson printers have a bunch of felt pads in the bottom for waste ink, and when the counter says they’re fully saturated, the printer will stop working until the counter is reset (which is *not* a good idea if you’re not changing those pads and don’t have an external waste system).

Thanks, I had no idea there was a waste system. I’d read about the error message and how to reset and that pad replacement on these machines was pretty much impossible for someone like me.

As a matter of fact, I’d even looked into the cost of replacement machines when this finally happens (I haven’t been a power user on this because of the cost of the cartridges over the years).

It’s nice to know there’s an affordable option (less than ten bucks at inkrepublic.com), thank you so much for sharing.
