The topic: Review: Bolt on Blu-Ray

----------------------------------------------

Hi Mittens! How are you doing today?

Hold on a moment… Are you talking to me? Did I give you permission to speak?

Erm, no…

Well then, shut up! I don’t yabber to everyone, you know. Unless you’ve got some food you want to give me, I’m not purring anything to you.

We just wanted to chat to you about Bolt…

You know Bolt? That dog is crazy, man! He jumps out of trucks doing 80 on the freeway, but he doesn’t have a clue what blood is. It’s so weird!

That does sound a little strange…

It sure is. He’s the only dog in the world who doesn’t know how to beg, too. All you have to do is tilt your head, but he had never done it before. He didn’t have a clue! What’s that all about? I had to teach him to drop his ears and ever-so- slightly look up. He soon got the hang of it, though.

Did it work?

Of course it did! We ate very well that day. Soup was definitely up – and there was lots of it. I remember enjoying my fair share of hot dogs with mustard. I hadn’t eaten like that in ages. It was wonderful. It was amazing. What a day!

Was he looking for Penny?

That’s right. I spotted his dog collar was from Hollywood and thankfully I knew where I could find a map. He had a big journey ahead of him because Penny was on the other side of America.

Did you help him on his way?

Wait a minute… What’s with all these questions? You’re starting to annoy me, buddy. I’ve got some pretty evil claws under these mitts and I’m not afraid to use them if you don’t stop your whining.

You wouldn’t hurt us, would you?

I’m holding these bad boys back as much as I can, but it’s not me you need to talk to. My stomach has a direct line to the claws – and my stomach is very hungry. (Mittens’ stomach starts to growl) Unless you’ve got some food to offer me, I’m outta here.

But we’ve heard a rumor you’ve been de-clawed…

What?! Who told you that? Tell me. Tell me now! I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous…

So it’s not true?

I’m not talking to you anymore. You’re stressing me out. I don’t find your questions very funny – and I don’t like what you’re suggesting. Do you really think I haven’t got claws under these mitts? Wanna test me, buddy? I’ll take you on…

No, no… It’s alright. We’ll leave you – but can you please answer one more question before we go?

Oh, go on then. What is it?

We just want to know why cats hate dogs so much?

Why do we hate dogs? Because we want to be dogs. We have dog complexes.

Really?

Sure. Dogs slobber, they sleep, they chase their tails and chew shoes. They do things like drink out of toilet bowls and stick their heads out of car windows. Cats are envious of dogs, but they won’t admit it. (Mittens’ stomach growls again) And with that, I’m off. If you tell anyone what I’ve admitted here today, I’ll come and find you – and the claws won’t be happy. You’ve been warned! (Mittens scampers)

Okay, we watched this movie last Sunday.   After the movie, I asked Brian if he liked it.  He replied “up until the end.”  Huh?  What do you mean?

“It was over.”

We liked it. We really, really liked them movie.  Just this morning, he asked me “what kind of dog do you think Bolt is?  I want a dog like Bolt.”  *lol*  I really can’t remember a time when he wanted anything based on what he saw in a movie.

The story is a good one, girl adopts puppy, puppy become famous along with the little girl, puppy grows up, gets lost, his little girl is heartbroken and he finds his way back home with the help of some other species friends.  It’s a feel good tale that will leave you feeling smooshy afterwards, because the cockles of your heart will be so warm, you’ll hardly be able to stand it.  I’m serious, I liked the story.  Of course, there were tears along the way and I was pretty upset at one part of the story and if you know anything about me and this website and something that people do that I really, really hate and you watch the movie, well, you’ll know what I’m talking about.  If you don’t know and you watch the movie and you still don’t know, feel free to comment and I’ll point you in the right direction.  It was a huge “ARRGH!!!” moment for me.

The scenery was visual eye candy. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself wanting to travel cross country in a car or on a train, just to take in the beauty that is America. And in the Blu-Ray version, you’ll get to find out how the two art guys traveled the U.S, over twelve hundred miles in two days, taking pictures and getting an idea of how the light is in different parts of the country.  How they made the movie so real.

The extras are well worth watching.  It’s funny, but I always buy the movie sets with all this special stuff added and I never watch it.   I didn’t until it was part of the deal of getting the movies to review.  Reviewing the extras and I think that I like the extras now.

The Super Rhino short was cute.  And after watching the other extra “Act, Speak! The Voices of Bolt” I think I have a crush on Rhino, because the man behind the voice is so adorable.

John Travolta comparing Miley Cyrus to Olivia Newton John, in the “In Session With…” extra brought a smile to my face, with the aha memory of Grease, the two discuss one another and this is followed up with the music video of “I Thought I Lost You”.  Miley makes a good point about the premise of the song.

I also liked meeting the directors.  Once again, the movie looks so effortless, that I just don’t think about all the work that goes into a movie like this.  And the designers, the people behind the animation, the people behind the computer generated images, it’s just very informative and these guys love what they do and it shows.  I’ll bet they were glad to shave, though.  *lol*

The concept art, always good.  The deleted scenes are shown as concept art with voice and music. At the dogs growling, my cats got a little upset.  Luckily, that wasn’t very long.

And there’s a game.  Now, you’d think after having a Wii for a half of a year, I’d be a little better at this kind of thing.  But, I sucked.  I’m sure it takes practice and that’s what I’ll be doing.

So, this movie gets an all thumbs/paws up from the cathouse.

The second disk in the three disk set, is a disk that plays on any DVD player. The third is a disk that is an official Digital Copy and can be downloaded to your computer or media player, like an iPod or Zune.

The first disk does have an extra that I was unable to access. My Blu-Ray player doesn’t have the capability. It’s BD-Live, which I think needs an internet connection.  Maybe in a couple of years….
