For much of the day. She had her re-exam this morning and while her mouth is doing better, it’s not doing better enough.
She’d put on some weight, also good, but the gums around her bottom molars (the top molars were removed last year) was a bright, angry red. When the vet pushed on it with the q-tip on a stick, they bled. Not a good thing.
He said that leaving her on the high dosage of pred that she’s been on would most likely lead to diabetes, so that’s not an option. He said at her age it’s not advisable to keep bringing her in and having her put under to work on her mouth.
So, removing the rest of her molars should take care of the problem, once and for all. There will be nothing for the immune system to attack.
She’ll still have her little teeny tiny front teeth and all four of her canines. And one other tooth that’s on the top, the gumline looked fine around that.
We knew this was a possibility when he looked at her two weeks ago. So, last night, all the food was pulled up, just in case she did need surgery today.
I pick her up at 3:30 this afternoon.
