Spoiler alert.
It's about a big ass tornado system. It's about the relationship between two boys and their father. It's about a boy in love with a girl who doesn't even know he exists. It's about a storm chaser who's had an incredible amount of bad luck finding storms to chase. It's about a couple of drunk rednecks.
But mostly it's about a big ass tornado system.
On the way out of the theater, a fellow attendee described it perfectly. "The weather was great, the acting was awful." Yep, that was the movie in a nutshell.
I checked my way cool movie watch after watching this tornado for what seemed like forever. An hour and five minutes. I didn't know how much more I could take. Not that the storm wasn't a powerful image, but it just got old. It got boring. The storylines weren't all that great. More of the movie was spent on the development of the storm than the characters.
The theater we sat is was specially equipped with special speakers and before the film began we were forewarned about how it might seem as if the seats were moving. He pointed out the special speakers in the back of the room. Afterwards, when Brian mentioned the big build up for the sound system, I said "yeah, it was much ado about nothing".
Should you see it at the theater? Well, the special effects are pretty impressive. Especially where the bodies get pulled into the tornados and you get to follow them up. But there's no way I'd pay full price for it.
