The topic: A quick update

----------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 13, 2004  This is just a quick update.  I’ve been getting things ready for our annual trip to Disneyland. We’re leaving tomorrow, will be back Sunday.

I took Marco in yesterday to see if it would be possible to let him out of the crate.  He was down there for a couple of hours and the news was good. There’s still a little bit of fracture visible in the x-ray, they figure he’s 99% healed.  So, he no longer has to be in the crate.  But he can’t go outside for at least three weeks. He doesn’t need another x-ray, but they said it would be a good idea, just to be sure.

The reason he can’t go out is that he’s lost a lot of muscle mass in that leg.  The vet is afraid if he went outside, he’d run and re-injure himself.  It’s okay for him to be inside and climb the trees and jump on the furniture, because that won’t stress the leg like running would.

Keeping him in isn’t a problem because Little Bit can’t go out, either.

Little Bit is doing much better.  She still coughs, reminds me of Ciara, but other than that, she sounds a lot better.  She’s slowly exploring the rest of the house, following the kittens’ lead.  When we got back from our walk this morning, she was laying on the back of Brian’s chair, the kittens were on the seat.  Of course, when she saw us, she jumped down and ran off.  But she’s settled down quite a bit and I think within a month or so, I’ll be able to let her out with supervision.

I’m glad that Sensible Choice started making smaller bags of food and charging the same price.  (They dropped the size three pounds and didn’t lower the cost of a bag.)  The reason I’m glad?  Because we tried a different dry food.  The cats have been getting canned Felidae at night and we figured we’d try the dry food.  I don’t know what’s different, but DeeJay is doing well on it.  He’s put on eight ounces since we started feeding them Felidae last month.  After all this time of trying to get him to eat different kinds of food, people food, kitten food, baby food, junk cat food, good cat food, cat treats, a whole list of stuff, well, we start feeding a different premium food and it’s doing wonders for him.  I know the shape of the food is easier for him, probably helps scrape some of the crud off of his teeth.  His stools are so much better than they’ve been in years, much more consistent.  Fair sized, well formed and they’re like that just about every time.  Here we didn’t even know if he’d still be with us this autumn and he’s doing better than he’s done in years.  My fingers are crossed that this keeps up.

My cell phone died yesterday.  This was a good time to die, but a bad time.  Bad because I was planning on taking the phone to Disneyland with us and I’ve given the number out to everyone who’s going to be there.  A good time because it died soon enough for me to contact the provider and get a new phone.  It was delivered about an hour ago, it’s all set up.  It did suck that I had to pay for the same ringtones I’d already gotten (It’s a Small World, the Mickey Mouse March and Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah).  And now I have to reprogram it.  But it works, thank goodness.  It’s charging right now.  Yesterday was the first time I gave anyone the number and that was the vet’s office.  And they called the cell number to let me know I could pick Marco up.  But my phone kept coming up “no service”.  I found out they’d called when I called them to see if he could come home.  “I left a message, didn’t you get it?”  *sigh*  No.

Well, that’s it for now.  I’ve got to get back to work, getting ready for tomorrow.  I’ll be back next week.

Have a great time!
