If I were you, I’d start looking around for another vet.  It doesn’t hurt to shop around especially now that this one has misdiagnosed Ciara apparently and could have caused her permanent injury.  I hope not, for her sake and yours.  She’s to pretty to be in such pain (no cats deserve pain anyway).  And your mom not hesitating with the money brought tears to my eyes.  Tell her she’s got a fan in Alabama!
