tales from the parkside

The topic: Last Sunday, the phone rang

----------------------------------------------

It was my mom, wanting to know if our cable was out.

I reminded her that we don’t have cable, but a BUD (big ugly dish).  “Oh, yeah, that’s right” she said.  She continued “well, the cable has been out here since yesterday.”  I ask her if anyone has called the cable company.  “Pauline did.”

So, every day, I ask her “did you get your cable back?” and the answer is the same.  “No.”  I told her that she should call them and ask for a refund of the money for service not provide.  “Oh, well, I might and I might not.” Gotta love those old people answers.

So, this morning, about two hours after our regular phone call, she calls me.  She called the cable company. And guess what?  They had no idea the cable was out.  No one had called to make an outage report.  I kind of figure all of the people in the park figured the manager would take care of it.  And some people don’t have phones, either, since their phone service provider is the same as the cable provider.

I asked about Pauline’s call.  She said “well, Pauline doesn’t even have cable.”  I was rolling my eyes here.  I told her “well, maybe they found she had no account and figured she was just a crazy old bat, ‘of course you aren’t getting service, you’re not signed up and you’re not paying for it’.”  She laughed.

She said they’re supposed to be out tomorrow to check on it.
